The Palm Jumeirah is an artificial archipelago in Dubai, created using land reclamation by Nakheel which extends into the sea. It is a part of extended series of development known as Palm Islands. Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira is a series of nearly completed projects of Palm Islands. Palm Jumeirah is located opposite to Marena. It gives a very good scene of Dubai skyscrapers by its crescent. Many people visit Palm Jumeirah to enjoy this wonder of the world. Palm Jumeirah consist of a numbers of villas clusters called fronds.
Palm Jumeirah was built in the earlier this century and was owned by Dubai’s government entity Nakheel. Trunk, spine, fronds, and crescent are the names by which the principal sectors are distinguished.
The main trunk, connected to the mainland of nearby Safouh and Knowledge village by a bridge, serves as the entrance to the community. Another bridge connects the trunk to the spine, a narrow central axis from which 17 fronds protrude.
The crescent is part that nearly surrounds The Palm and provides the beautiful view from the skyscrapers 4 km from the sea side. The master plan was designed by an American firm Helman Hurley Charvat Peacock. The work of the Palm Jumeirah mega project started in 2001. The land and basic infrastructure were built in 2004. Hence the construction of buildings and bridges started in 2006 and the occupation of the buildings started in 2007.
Today Palm Jumeirah consists of many luxurious apartments and villas, extravagant hotel and resorts and much more. As per some estimates Palm Jumeirah is home of over 12000 people.
